Easter Dinner Ideas

My parents are coming over for Easter dinner and I need a menu!

Traditional in my family is ham, fruit salad, mashed potatoes, and devilled eggs. However, I'm not a big fan of ham and I like to mix things up - so I need menu ideas!

I'm thinking some kind of roast chicken (mother's suggestion and I did that last year and it was good)

or -being really different and doing Roast Lamb Leg (this recipe: Lamb with Greens and Feta ) However, I have never cooked lamb before and I don't even know if a local grocer carries it!

Any other main dish suggestions?

Then I'll do some green vegetable, some potato side, and a fruit side - but, again, I'm uninspired.

The one thing I DO know? So making Grandmama's Chocolate Layer Cake for dessert.

  1. I'm afraid I won't be much help... we're having a taco bar this year, lol! (usually we do the traditional ham, rolls and butter, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and some kind of fruit pie for dessert)

  2. Grocer, or supermarket? I think leg of lamb is pretty commonly available.

  3. I slow cooked beef roast. My Mom has a recipe where you cook the roast on the oven rack- Yum!

  4. I was trying to find a link to the Easter recipes in my magazine, but they don't have it online. :P

Instead, I found this, which is in some ways better (more variety). A lot of them look delicious! Hopefully it'll give you inspiration.

I also scanned in one of the recipes from the mag (for me, and then I saw your post and thought I'd share it). A fancy version of deviled eggs. (Let me know if the image is hard to read and I'll send you a bigger version.)

  5. I can't remember if I've linked you to this site before, so just in case:

She does mostly vegetarian recipes, but even a hard core meat lover like me finds her recipes alluring! She recently posted a recipe for "Basic Chocolate Cake" that doesn't use sugar or white flour that looks and sounds heavenly. Perhaps that'd be a chocolate cake to try sometime?
